1Ys²f and his brothers and his sons 2of the family Kṯbm, clients of the family Mrṯ- 3dm, dedicated to ʾlmqh ḏ-Hrn the 4tablet, as ʾlmqh bade them 5in His oracle, when He made know the man 6who had attacked their houses. And they praised the might of ʾlm- 7qh because He granted them all the favourable oracles 8they sought or shall seek of Him; 9and may He grant them grace and safety 10and the goodwill of their lords the family Mrṯdm.
Translation Notes:
5k-yfʿn: it is highly unusual that the motive for a dedication should begin with k-.
Beeston 1937 a: 25 translated "(declaring) that", but later (Beeston 1988: 10) suggested the basic meaning for k- of "when".
The problem of the translation of yfʿn remains. The meaning suggested by SD is "go up to, appoach" so the translation of the phrase could be: "when he approached, the man who moved against their houses". Beeston 1937 a: 25 translated: "(declaring) that He would raise up the men whose house was destroyed". The translation is interesting because it hypothesises that the subject of the verb is the god. The verb when used in a legal context (it could be anothr instance of a legal lexicon inside a dedicatory text) means "proclaimed, officially known". From that my proposed translation.
