1Thus decreed and ordained unanimously ʿmʾmr, kbr of the qyn of Brʾm, and the ʾqyn 2of Brʾm on the authority of ʾlmqh in Brʾm: each 3goat, which is found to have approached the construction of Brʾm in order to graze, let it 4be slaughtered. And blood is its testimony, according to their ordinance.
1So haben ʿAmmʾamar, der Vorsteher der Verwalter von Barʾum, und die Verwalter 2von Barʾum in ihrer Gesamtheit aufgrund (der Weisung) von ʾAlmaqah in Barʾum festgesetzt und angeordnet: Wenn man 3eine Ziege an die Mauer von Barʾum hinabgestiegen zum Weiden vorfindet so werde sie geschlachtet. 4Und Blut sei Zeugnis für sie entsprechend dieser Anordnung.
Translation Notes:
1brʾm, so die altsäbaische Form. In späterer Zeit wird in den Inschriften ʾAlmaqah mit dem Titel "Herr von Baʾrān" (bʿl/brʾn) und – weitaus häufiger – "Herr von Maskat und Yaṯwī Baʾrān" (bʿl/mskt/wyṯw/brʾn) angerufen.
2-3ʾyt/ʿnz etc. wörtlich: "welche Ziege (vor)gefunden wird...".
4dmhm ist Plural, vgl. hebr. dāmīm.
Gemeint ist wohl, daß das Blut der geschlachteten Ziege an sichtbarer Stelle, möglicherweise an der Außenmauer des Vorhofes, anzubringen sei. Vgl. etwa auch Ex 12,7, wonach Türsturz und Pfosten mit dem Blut des Pessah-Lammes zu bestreichen sind.
