Translation Notes:

2-4Jamme translated the sentence nʿmw ... ... ḫys¹ b-ʿbr Ḥḍrmt as "avaient accepté de se séparer du Ḥaḍramawt", confronting ḫys¹ with Ar. ḫāsa "to break" and giving a negative sense to b-ʿbr. According to him, the lords of the town decided to separate from Ḥaḍramawt, so the author of the text came with the Sabaean army to reinforce the town and took hostages among the Ḥaḍrami people present in there. For the translation of ḫys¹ "be submissive", see Beeston in CIAS: i, 56-58. Cf Ryckmans 1975: 216 "act perfidiously".
